Laying floor boards over an existing floor.
Hi,
I just registered to this forum.
Can anyone tell me where to find how to lay new floor boards over an existing timber floor?
The existing floor is harwood strip floor, but in a pretty bad shape, so re-sanding it won't help. The options are to pull it out or re-lay the new boards over the existing ones. My preference is the second option as it will be less work and probably end up with more solid floor as the end result.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,

There is a flooring section of the renovation forums where you should ask this question. The renovate forums is linked on the front page of the woodwork forum
PeterThe other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

It will depend on a few factors. What kind of strip floor are you laying over and what is under that. There may be a perfectly good floor under there that would come up with a sand and seal.No point laying a new floor on an unstable base. Are you intending laying traditional T&G boards. A few pics of existing floor would help.

Peter,
Thanks for pointing that out. I should have looked at the date first.

Probably too late, but we have just layed a laminate floor over floor boards. Used the good quality foil lined underlay, and has come up a treat. Not hard technically, just a bit tiring on the knees. Something to look at.
