Thread: Letter box questions.

Hi guys, I am after some advice on building a new letterbox. I am very much the novice but want to give it a go. So here is what I am thinking.

I have a stainless steel letterbox similar to the one shown here and I am thinking of making a frame similar to the one in the pics.

So I am after advice on what sort of timber to use. I am thinking of staining the posts and using Merbau decking as the cross pieces. What sort of timber should I use as posts? Termites are a big issue in our area and obviously I don't want the little buggers to cause me problems. I was thinking of using 90x90mm treated pine posts but how do I finish/stain them?

I was thinking of recessing the slats at the back of the posts as shown in my diagram by running a router along the posts. Is this feasible? That way you won't see any screws at the front like the Ebay ones. Is there any other ways to do it?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
