Hi Tonyz
Mate made a Lichtenberg machine from a microwave transformer, but he is currently a grey nomad in FNQ so I cannot ask him questions.
I used it a little and got some great results. The other 95% were crap. He was starting to learn how to read the grain and anticipate how the "rivers of fire" were likely to run, and reduced his stuff-up rate to about 90%.
When it works it is great, sometimes brilliant, but .......
Suggest you read up on it, but also try to find someone who can demonstrate it. One seeing is better than 100 hearings....
Cheers
Graeme

Agree with Crocy..do not do it...there are many other ways to embellish without danger. An electrical engineer, friend and woodturner, decided he would make one. BUT, it was not properly insulated (he used golf club grips apparently!!) and he got a fright of his life, but survived, JUST. We have to be careful with our woodturning as it is, so we do not need another dangerous dimension, IMHO. Drillit.

Timely warning, Crocy
The output voltage from a microwave transformer is incredibly high. I cannot recall the precise figure but I seem to remember my mate saying his Lichtenberg had a maximum output of 3,000 volts. You controlled or influenced the burning by varying the voltage - experience, skill, intuition and luck; mainly the latter with me!
Perhaps you could confirm the indicative voltage range?
Cheers
Graeme
