This is a bit of a 'go nowhere' thread. I can see both sides of the coin and would probably lean towards Scribbly's point of view. I don't see any harm and I can't find anything specifically that prevents Scribbly from posting a leader. Scribbly (IMHO) has contributed a great deal to this forum, both directly and indirectly.
If we were to nitpick, I find members who post a "thumbs up" --> <-- as a response to a thread annoying. This type of response doesn't contribute to a thread, it's only a means to increase your post count.
There are many things annoying both in life and in this forum and if I were to let them all annoy me then I'd be lying in the foetal position. At the end of the day I just ignore and move on.-Scott

If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

I think SG dropped himself in it by responding he probably was not in the thoughts of the original poster
I hadn't noticed it in his threads but I have in a few others mostly from over the pond.
I usually do not find it annoying if it gives me enough info to make up my mind if I am interested or not,
what I don't like is being sent off stone cold to some other site.

Here we go again. What a pain in the proverbial!
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

Yep. I just came from that thread. I don't mind it when a poster shares all of the content in the forum as well as a link to his/her blog but stuff like the above and what Scribbly Gum does is too much for me. Admins need to stamp this out before it becomes a problem.
The other day as I was reading this thread I thought I'd search around to see what people were upset about. For the last few months it seems nearly every thread Scribbly Gum has started has been a teaser post to generate traffic to his site. That's taking advantage of this community and I don't care how you spin it to justify it.
I have linked to my blog as well but there's really no need to go there as all of that content is also on this forum. Some of the arguments about sharing information and the community benefiting is a load of bullocks. If you wanted to share it you would post it here as well as on your blog.
Phew, glad I got that off my chest.
btw, today I made a chest and reviewed some sand paper and prevented an accident which would have given me a new nick name - Sammy-Four-Fingers. You can read all about it on my blog.

I don't have a problem with links to blogs. As far as I'm concerned it's the same as linking to a review (or whatever) on any other website. There are also logistical problems with things like the amount of pics per post (ok, it can be done with several posts).
From my own experience in the Handtools Group Buy thread, recreating the posts with pics and formatting in Word to then create a PDF was a PITA, but in that case necessary.

# I really have had a gutful of the negativity and tall poppy bashing that is creeping in to this Forum.
There are many people who have contributed mightily to the Woodworkers Forum over the years, who have become the targets of some small minded individuals, who are taking the opportunity to attack them personally, simply because they provide links to outside websites or blogs.
I don't know what their motivation is, but if you read the postings you can probably work it out for yourselves.
The Forum, and those that read it have benefitted from the links provided. Many readers would not know about them except for the link provided.
I have always tried to be positive about the posts that I have made on this Forum, and I am dismayed that the Forum has been allowed to sink so low that negativity is allowed to go unchecked.
I will be ceasing my association with this Forum immediately.
Many of you I will miss – to you I wish the very best.
Kind regards
