This is a little unusual but.......
My wife has just aquired 2 small kittens.
First few nights that have been coming into our room at night jumping on our heads etc, enough so that we cannot sleep.
We do not have many doors in our house and we don't like closing our bedroom doors, we have 3 entrances into our main bedroom.
I am thinking of letting them play at night at the other end of the house where they can do whatever they want.
During the day they can roam around but we do not want that at night.
I have been looking on the net and have decided to have a crack at making a tension mounted pet barrer.
Where tension is used to keep the gate upright and ridgid between two walls.
I only need to male it approx 1000mm wide * 1500mm hight as I thinking.
Any idea how to go about making the tension side of things as an example look at these:

Tension Mount Pet Gate - Easy Life Handle & Swing Door
I do not want it to be permanent, just something I can put up every night and take down in the morning.
If I cannot get it to work I can always just make a free standing one I guess.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Threaded arms with pads on the end.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

What ever you do and how ever you build it. Just make sure that all important late night time destination is not impeded by the barrier. From experience, its not pretty.

Hummmmm.... thinking.... thinking.....
From experience, I can tell you with absolute certainty that your solution may work in the short term, but even kittens learn to climb and jump quickly.
It wont be long before they are over that barrier. And kittens/cats are very determined animals. Once they make up their mind, there is almost no stopping them.
If I was in your shoes, and I have been, I would invest in a water pistol and keep it handy. If their behaviour is unacceptable, zap them with a quick shot and yell NO!
They will learn very quickly not to disturb you at night.

Gate/grate with smaller than kitten-sized openings. That part obvious.
Pinned to walls with adjustable table feet. Search for chair glide or table glide or adjustable table feet. Companies sell as both glides or feet or both. They come in all sorts of sizes and materials. Not sure if the online sellers deal with smaller quantities. You probably want non-slip.
Or use fixed feet and make two narrower gates that slide against each for tensioning.
Toddler barriers use both methods.

I gave up. The dang cat wants to play at 3AM. Not. She weighed in at a hefty 3.6kg at the Vet's the other day. That expands to 150kg on the bed at night.
Why so many? You can't have a productive conversation with one, let alone a bunch of them.

Those gates just look like toddler gates to me. I have put in a few (for other people) over the last few years. They have some adjustable pads on the sides. So as not to leave dents in plaster walls I have spread the load using a piece of timber (just plain 19mm pine).
We simply lock our kitten in the laundry when we don't want it roaming the house.
Right now it has probably gone into the bed to sleep next to SWMBO.
Good luck training your cats before they train you.

Velcro may be a better solution. Just stick them to the wall when you go to bed and they will be there in the morning.

Check out the following web site-
www.catnet.com.au
This company has a range of solutions for making cat enclosures. They supply netting suitable for cat enclosures as well as clips, s/s tension wire, tension bolts etc.
My daughter who lives in Dubai wanted a large cat 7m x 4m x 2.4m high enclosure. I arranged for this company to supply all the gear and forwarded it on to Dubai.
