Thread: Loft Bed

Just an update on my loft bed project for my 2 kids...just about done. The only thing left to do is some better lighting in the desk area underneath. I'll probably whack in some LEDs so it's nice and bright for them. All in all, pretty happy with how it's turned out. Each of them has a double bed mattress and their own little private area so may squeeze another year having brother and sister share the same bedroom.

That looks great and I like the ladder. It looks like you have allowed plenty of room under the beds, almost enough for an adult to stand up straight and not hit their head.
For me the only concern is how to make the beds that far off the floor and what happens if one of the kids is ill?
But you have have made great use of your space.

Great work BUT URGENTLY SUGGEST replacing glass in the window with safety glass, use a temporary sheet of ply over the window till you do. Because the ladder is next to the window and kids do muck around, you will never forgive yourself for the inevitable result.
Being a licensed building supervisor and building consultant, I am acutely aware of the regulations re windows / stair access, etc not to mention liability if its someone else s child.
Otherwise, great project

Having fallen thru a glass door last year I can only agree about the glass.

Agree on the safety glass.... I just put my 2yo sons bed against a large window, cost $600-odd to replace a large static plate glass window with 6.3mm laminated glass....

Yep, no amount of money can replace a body part or worse.
