    Default log pick up thingy

had a couple of big stumps dropped off at the shed yesterday
the bloke with the Hi AB grabbed them with a pair of those scissor type steel jaws thingies with the spikes and the chain,

(this forum is the repository of all wood wisdom, I expect this lousy description to make perfect sense to someone)

I would like to either make or buy a pair, could someone at least tell me what they are called so I can google them?

    thanks John

what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

it could have been a cant hook (link) or a log caliper this is the only pic i could find but they also come without the handles to be used on a tractor jib and the like

Ah, I knew I could count on the forum,
    thank you gentlemen

    A skid tong, (US)
A log caliper (OZ) without the handles.

I'm putting together a small jib or derrick crane off the side of the shed to shift about some of the heavier stuff

ps. warning !! typing "stiff jib derrick" into google
    may bring some surprises

That one I'm prepared to take on trust without testing it myself.

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".
