Looking for some assistance
Hi, I am looking for assistance from a woodie in the North East Area of Melbourne. I'd like to expand my workshop with some new equipment and take on some projects over the christmas period.
I have looked in some of the local mags 'Australian Woodsmith' and not sure on some of the techniques used in turning the timber specified, into the parts listed in the part list.
What I like to do is spend some time with an experienced woodie, who could give me some hints and tips on how to tackle some of the projects. Maybe show me which equipment I should be investing in, etc etc.
I appreciate that time is a finite resource, and I'd be willing to compensate. I work in IT so maybe we could share our respective skills, our something along those lines.

welcome to the board, im local only in warrandyte, but I would be of no use as I am only a newb, I think our resident rokking horse maker is in donvale, so there are a couple of guys in the area.
it might help the guys to know what type of work you were looking at, cabnetry, turning, carving ot just making sawdust (Thats all I seem to do)
good luck anyhow.I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

The project list from the Boss of the House includes an Entertainment Centre, some jewelrey boxes, and melamine cupboards.
I am really good at turning wood into firewood and sawdust ;-)

Wow, you're one up on me. I haven't progressed to the firewood stage yet. SWMBO say i make wonderful sawdust though. MAybe if I keep practicing, I'll progress to firewood.

Best advice I can give John, is to join a club like The Waverley Woodworkers or our Triton Woodworkers Club (you don't have to have a Triton) in Holmesglen.
There are also courses in woodworking and turning if that's your thing, in fact a beginners workshop starts next weekend at Holmesglen TAFE so maybe give them a call to see if it's suitable and that they have vacancies.
It depends on how much you know and what you want to do. Let me know if you want further details.

Hay nothing wrong with the orange stuff, except maybe its habit of breeding.
Your list is very similar to mine, will be starting a jewlery box soon, I purchased a selection of precut silky oak panels at the working with wood show, so keep an eye open, and I will be posting pictures (this will be my first so we will see how I go). As for the entertainment unit. It has been on the drawing board for about 5 years and we still havent decided on a design...
You will find A number of the members here work in IT, myself included. What sort of equipment do you have? Maybe the guys here could give you some suggestions on any important equipment you are missing (Gumby, Oz and Grunt leave it alone).
Also are you going darkside or are you happy working with machines
