I use to use a power-saw and ply track for years and it gives you a straight cut but nowhere near the quality of cut a good tracksaw gives if that matters to you.
If you are just breaking down sheets and further machining the cut it doesn’t matter but if you are cutting finish sizes that you want to edgestrip etc it is definitely a second rate finish
The finish on a cut from say a Festool saw is such that you don’t need to plane it, just a light sand and it is ready for paint

Like others I used various home made versions of a ply or MDF track saw before taking the plunge (pun intended) and getting a TS55 tracksaw. Night and day between the home made version and the TS55. I have absolutely no regrets buying it and the recent addition of a 2700mm rail that I picked up secondhand for a song has revolutionized it even further, as I have a large project on the go that required many 2400 long rips.

I have a Festool and its great but I would buy a Mafell next time just to try something different.
