Looking for ideas.

A friend of mine has just given me a Jarrah mantlepiece that came out of the house they are renovating. It's a beautiful piece, about 1500mm x 250 mm x 50mm. it's been a mantelpiece for about 25 years and I don't know what before that, but i think it's about 40 years dry. Square and flat.

I want to make something nice for them as they are renovating their house significantly and will have new family, master bed, and dining areas. But I have no idea what to make that will do the piece justice. I thought of jewellery/cutlery boxes, school hall style clock etc, but none of those really appeal to me.

I will probably take it to Mathews and get them to re-saw it down to two lengths of about 19mm thick each and dress it, but after that I have no idea what to build them.

So what would you do with it?

Slice 95mm of it, cut them into 2/45mm squares and then cut into in half lengthwise so you have 4@750mm for legs.

Now slice remaining 150mm x 50mm into 2@150 x 19mm finished size for 300mm wide table top and make them a hall table.

All you'll need to source is a few pieces for rails to join the legs.
