Default Looking for ideas/methods to make adjustable vertical dividers

    Hi

I'm hoping that someone can suggest a method or useful hardware "gizmo" that will allow me to make adjustable vertical dividers within a cabinet.

SWMBO wants divided storage within the wardrobe that can hold her assortment of handbags. Fortunately there are not that many. Were the bags will be stored vertically, like books in a bookshelf - well that's what SWMBO would like

I have contemplated the usual dadoes/groves etc but don't really want that as there is the potential of the groove edges marking/damaging the bag.

I have the gizmos in the photos below that are designed for normal vertical shelves and I have considered using them. The minor difficulty with these is the fact that the clips are effectively self supporting when placed under a normal shelf, but in the current thinking the dividers (ie shelves) are vertical and the clips would then have to be screwed to the divider to hold them in place. This is really inconvenient as the space between the dividers may be as little as 75mm. The clip would also have to be attached to the rear of the divider making such a screw fixture almost impossible to implement.

Now, based on this idea in princple, I thought of using ball catches that would locate in the holes in the plastic strip. This would mean four ball catches per divider and would provide GREAT EASE of adjustment with considerable flexibility while locating the divider in place.

I have been put off this idea by the cost of the ball catches, which is more than I think worthwhile for this inexpensive project (even though it is for SWMBO).

I only want 6mm ball catches and at the quoted price of $3.60 for two or $7.20 per divider, that is more than I think is a fair price. There will be 8 dividers meaning a cost of $57.60 JUST for ball catches.

SWMBO's bags were to be stored vertically, but if there are no other useful and cost effective hardware gizmos then I guess I will just resort to normal shelving.

    Thanks for any other suggestions...
    Kind Regards

    Peter

How about dovetails top and bottom but filling the unused channels with a wooden rod with the matching profile. You could make a nice blender with tight-fitting dowels that slots on to cover the leading edge...

Would be a bit of work but wouldn't cost you anything in fixtures...

Are these ball catches Gold Plated?

I will send you a PM with a link to a place where you can get some at a sensible price

I know that this place has 6mm Ball catches in stock in a Nickel Plated Finish
