Looking for a mentor in Perth area to help with cedar swing seat project
Hi Guys,
I'm looking to build a Swing Seat for the wife's garden using red cedar suspended from the veranda by chains. These are pretty popular in the US and I have a couple of plans for designs I like but the level of detail on the plans is pretty minimal.
Although I have a shed and a reasonable collection of tools (many were inherited from Dad), it has been quite some time since I have done any woodworking and - frankly - I think I have stage fright! I can use all the tools and have a table saw and router table etc but knowing where to make the cuts has me scared
Wifey, though, is running out of patience and wants her love seat....
I'm looking for someone who can give me a hand to get this project underway - a sort of project mentor if you like. I'm not completely sure how to tackle the overall design and would feel a lot more comfortable with an experienced hand around for guidance on the design elements.
I'm happy to bribe helpers with cartons of beer, wine or PVA glue depending on your preference. Wife also bakes a mean cookie
I live in Floreat and as I said, have a pretty decent collection of tools and lots of space. I've also got a supply of timber. I can take time of during the week or weekends so am pretty flexible.
Is there anyone here in Perth who can help?
Thanks,
Marcus

I'm not the most experienced member here but I would be happy to help out as much as I can. Can you show me the plans you have in mind so I can get some idea of what's involved? Also, what timber were you planning on using?

Hi TP1,
Happy to accept any help at all! Are you relatively local?
I'm thinking about a design similar to this one:
I've got a stack of Western Red Cedar to make it from. Was advised this was a good choice of timber for a seat that gets wet occasionally.

The project certainly looks doable. Red Cedar is a good choice I think for outdoor furniture.
I am in Hillarys, near the marina by the coast. Just up the road from you. Please send PM with contact details so we can get together.
