If you love French Art Deco check website
www.pollaro.com
Talk about a strong influence by Ruelhmann, perhaps one of my favourite bespoke Art Deco dudes from France in the 1920's and 30's.
In my opinion, English and French cabinet makers produced the most beautiful furniture during that period. Each country's practitioners had completely distinct styles from each other. Needless to say their output was remarkably different from what was going on in the US.
Hope you enjoy.
Howard
BTW - does anyone here know if Art Deco made its way over to Australia or did more traditional styles prevail at that time?

Some of the aussie built stuff from the forties had a strong
art deco influence, old radio cabinets come to mind.
Most towns in Australia will have at least one building with Art Deco influences. there's a couple here in Bendigo vic.
Here's one of my favorite contemporary makers
http://www.heitzmanstudios.com/
he tends more towards Art Nouveau, but you can see
heavy Deco influences in some of his work
cheers

G'day Howard and thanks for that link.
I like Art Deco although some of it is overdone in architectural terms.
As Col said there was a strong Art Deco influence in Australia, even into the 50s. My personal favorites, in terms of buildings, are the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building. The work on the interior of the Empire State Building is gorgeous.
I was pleased to stay in Miami just before last Christmas and get to have a good look around the AD area there. Many of the modern buildings in that area show the AD influence.
We have one multi story building in Brisbane with an Art Deco top. It stands like a beacon amongst all the modern straight lined, functional minimalist stuff that comprises the rest of our skyline.
