I bought a cheap unit second hand. Detroit Double Green Crossline Laser Lever with Wall&Floor Clamp Bracket | Total Tools (I paid $150 used, and does not have the clamp).
Has 3 power options. Fits on my camera tripods. Has been useful the few times I have used it.
It was great for fitting a shelf inside a cupboard - I was able to mark all four supports at the same time. Very good for vertical line (when hanging pictures).
Not so good for horizontal line for the following - Towards the end of the line it gets wider. Any vibrations (eg walking) will cause the line to move. When the tripod is at its highest setting, it sometimes is still not high enough. My last job was to hang three prints level. I had the tripod at max height on a table and it was still about 200mm too low. Also as I could not move the table I needed to pan the laser to do all three prints (six hangers) using the middle ones as a datum reference.
When on the full size camera tripod I can not use the plumb spot as it is covered. The lines are green, the plumb spot is red.
Yes it has made it easier and clients have been impressed.Last edited by Handyjack; 25th February 2020 at 05:27 PM. Reason: more detail. Link to level

I have one of these: DATUM Cross Line Laser Level w. Plumb Dots - Green DT1H1V2PG | Total Tools
And I also have a Robotoolz red laser one, for cabinet work and plumbing up long tall wall frames, they work brilliantly, for quickly going over a slab to check for undulations, they work brilliantly, for setting them on a plane to set out an angled ceiling or such they work brilliantly. A couple of my compatriots in the trade have the Stanley yellow ones and they like them. No need to spend any more than $300 in my opinion.

I have one of these
Sydney Tools
I picked it up on sale for something like $50... give or take.
It's stated accuracy is pretty good, 2 mm / 10 m though I have never tested it for accuracy. It seems to work ok the couple of times I have used it, wouldn't trust dropping it though.

Thanks for all the input. I decided in the end to get a Bosch GLL 5-50 X, Bosch Multi Line Laser Level Red Beam GLL5-50X | Total Tools.
It has almost 360 coverage in 3 planes, crossing right over the ceiling and around all the walls. The lines disappear under the unit, replaced there by a plumb dot. Accuracy on the Bosch Australia website is stated as 2mm/10m, which is as good as can be expected.
The power is not as great as on the Bosch GLL 3-80 that Beardy recommended up front on this thread, but at a stated 15m working range it'll do fine for domestic indoor work. I'm not doing warehouses.
Good thing was, I got a run-out unit from CL Tools in Brisbane at $200 (Bosch now only distribute to Total Tools and Bunnings the sales fella said, so CL are selling off remaining inventory). That was $50 cheaper than what Total Tools are selling at, and half the price of a GLL 3-80.
The bargain swung me, plus I think that with "almost 360 degrees" coverage I'll be ok for just about everything indoors. Didn't quite manage my $150 budget, but I think I'll be happy.
Right, back to work.

Funny thing ... all the prices on Bosch laser levels jumped significantly higher at Total Tools last night (like by about $80). Bunnings still down, but maybe not for long ...
And also their price on the multi-function tool I was about to buy (Bosch GOP 30-28) also jumped up, by $100. Lucky Bunnings still have it at the old price. Weird.
