    Default Lychee wood

Hi everyone, has anyone had experience Lychee wood, if so so what have you used it for, my Son-in-Law has cut one down today and it seems to be a lovely red colour. I have asked him not to burn it until I get some info on it, Thanks.

Most fruit woods seem to be pretty good. I would certainly give it a try.

I cut one down a couple of years back and used some of it for, mainly, small turnings; such things as small bowls, some pens, some tool handles.
Lovely wood to turn and takes a good polish. But cracks extensively in drying.
I'd suggest roughing out your pieces green as soon as possible.

To stop it cracking, it might be worth coating it all over with end grain sealer. Not just the end grain, but all over. Then give it a lot of time to dry. I had some success doing this with banksia, which also has a bad reputation.

Some sections I got hold of were more of a pink colour than red and the borers were were a far bigger problem than cracking, but it was nice to work and finished well too
