marine ply joinery
I've got some cabinetry made of hoop pine ply which I need to finish. I'd like it not to yellow and I'd like it to have a matt or low-satin finish. I've been checking out water based clear products like Intergrain Ultra Clear or wattyl's speed clear - any other suggestions? Some of the plywoord joinery is in an ensuite - and the water based finish probably won't be water-proof enough. Any suggestions for a clear, low sheen, non yellowing, waterproof finish? I think I'm asking the impossible...
Thanks

Any of the reputable polyurethanes will give a good durable finish with minimal discolouration. Be sure to use exterior grade if it will get any sunlight. Estapol is a readily available brand.
However, over time the hoop pine itself will darken due to the effects of UV and oxidation. This is impossible to stop; keep it in the dark and you will slow the process. Most think the maturing of pine finishes results in a pleasant colouring.
Cheers

I used Cabots Clear Floor water based finish on my kitchen bench tops, its nice and hard and waterproof and non yellowing.
