    good luck weisyboy.

petersemple i think the market you are thinking of is at eagle street pier.i was there some years ago,all woodwork was very well made but very expensive.i suppose to reflect the time it takes to make items.we all know that.but i think it was expensive to get a stall ,just my memory from talking to a stall holder.

'Twas a bad day, got warned it was a big "tyre-kicker" day today, families going to pick up freebies but not buying much.

Keep at it Carl, the first time is never easy.

Can be quite demoralizing, markets. DAMHIK. Did you get people looking at least? Was there other "proper" craft people there who seem to do OK? Or is it a bargain hunter's place. If it a place which seems to get regular locals who keep coming back all the time it can take a while to build up the sales 'cause they think they'll just get it next week.

:whisper: I had one market early on when I was next to some women selling "scrunchies. 3 for $10 they were and the customers were three deep. I didn't sell a thing.

moast of the stall holders said there sales were half normal because it was family day. but i would ned to get at least double the sales to get me back to that place.

If it helps at all Carl, we only sold 2 items to the public.

It was other stall holders who made our day worthwhile though.
Ended up close to one of our best days .

I think you did well for your first go.

Markets can be frustrating. When we used to do them, we went to Nth Pine Markets in Brisbane, good regular sales, Yandina good regular sales, and Gympie Sth.good regular sales, and Peter did a few markets at Mt Tamborine good sales. We did the Gympie Muster ONCE ONLY NEVER AGAIN only sold one thing and met a few rude arogant people, first and only time we struck this anywhere. We did the Woodford Folk Festival twice loved it. Also the Blues fest at byron bay which was great. Did a homeshow at the Gold Coast DISASTERNEVER AGAIN first and only time I think that we sold absolutely nothing.

There is a lot of retired people around the place selling turnings, you have the access to bigger timber, there is a market out there for rustic items of a larger size. Coffee tables were never a big seller for us tho. Try making something bigger and displaying your smaller items on it, get talking to the customers that oo and ah over your wonderful table/bar/bench or whatever and take photos of everything you make, put them in an album, we used to sell a LOT of our stuff through orders, they all usually want something that is a little different than what you are offering. Your smaller stuff will sell gradually, people come back when they are stuck for a present for someone at the last minute. You could put a couple of your slabs on display for sale too, lots of woodies wander through. Your smaller things will sell eventually. One woman who I met who had been in sales for years, said EVerything will eventually sell, just gotta wait till the right person comes along at the right time.

Bad luck Carl. Most people go to Cararra for high quality low cost stuff, asian knock-offs mainly.

You'd probably be better off trying the arty crafty type markets, but check there are no other turners there first, you could have some stiff competition from retirees. I went to Tamborine markets after Cararra, there are quite a few wood workers selling there. There is a wood turner there that I consider really good. There is also a band saw box maker sometimes there, but not always. I mainly go to get ideas and have a chin wag, and to get some jams and fruit & veg.
