The restorations I've done have "restored by Steph" and the date written on the back or underneath.
The only things I've done for other people (so far) are framed pictures which have a clear inkjet label on the back with "framed by Steph" and the date and species plus my phone and email contact details.
When I finally get around to finishing a piece of furniture I will put "made by Steph" and the date on an unobtrusive area.
Steph

I ordered a personalized branding iron from BrandNew.Net. It is just a simple "from the shop of" and then my signature. I've had it about 8 years and I'll burn into the piece in a inconspicous place my signature. I think that I paid $65 for the branding iron which I heat with a propane torch.

I bought a laser engraver and have been thinking about making 'Makers marks' on veneer which could be cut out and stuck on or rebated in.
Still thinking about it.

How about those metal stamp things you can buy in Bunnings. Would they work on timber? You know the thing I mean? they are metal punches with letters on them. Says you can use them on metal or timber but not sure if they would work on timber, specially softwood.
Reality is no background music.

I had an idea some years ago to recess a current dated coin into the timber, somewhere out of sight so I would know the date of manufacture. I did it with a few pieces but didn't continue with the idea.

Here you go. This stamp costs around $15. I looks simple but I quite like it.

Don't mark any work as such - I usually know what I have done and when I'm gone I don't really care.
As to marking tools etc - like most I've had bits go missing - but for many years now I have marked my stuff with "Stolen from Bob ............." - was a joke originally but it really seems to work as well as providing some amusement.
