    Default Measure twice, cut once...

    Guess who measured once?

New baby growing, so need a bigger cot - bought the mattress first, measured it once then put it away under the bed.

Luckily I can get my money back from one place and a bigger mattress from another!

The hammer is there for size.

I thought you were going to say you measured your baby and got it wrong.

Think Thrice... Measure twice... cut once.

And as for the hammer, if you were any kind of a decent father you would leave it there for you bub to play with instead of a crappy teddy bear

    Nice job Channa.

Out of curiousity is the height of the base adjustable. I know from experience (2 kids) that unneccessary bending over is a PITA!
Have a nice day - Cheers

I like the Think Thrice bit - SWMBO said I should have eased back into things as I've been out of the shed for a while.

Sorry WoodButcher - It is fixed height at the moment, but easily adjustable with power drill and 8mm drill bit! ;-)

    G'Day Channa,

when I measured up for a cot for my first it was the wrong size by the time I had finished, but the second and third child it was fine, I think I may have taken to long to make it, the little mite's grow so darn quick!....
    savage(Eric) .
P.S. my eldest is 20yrs old (Girl) now and my youngest is 17yrs old (Son, jnr woodworker) with my baby girl nearly 18!...

channa STOP, I hope I've caught you in time!
Don't return the matress. Go to your foam rubber store, Clark's in Oz, and buy a piece of foam rubber with a thickness equal to your "carefully calculated and intentional gap", length equal to the width of the matress and width about 250mm. Ask SWMBO to cover it with appropriate printed cloth and slip it in place vetically. It stops the little ones head from hitting the cot when chucking tantrums .... did exactly the same thing 30 years ago, my "little ones" are now 29, 25 and 21 and finally stopped chucking tantrums, Fletty

Can I just dwell on that gut wrenching feeling that comes after four weeks of beavering away thinking everything was going awesomely, and then you finally put the last piece in place (in this case the mattress) and realise that at some stage, you have done something you shouldn't, it doesn't fit, and now you have to find some way to retrieve it... are you with me here?

Well, it was under the influence of that feeling that I rang around desperately last night trying to find a mattress 50mm bigger than the American mattress we had already bought, and when I finally found one, bought it over the phone on the VISA...

The point is, great idea Fletty - wish I'd thought of it, but I'll post a picture of the finished product with the new mattress in a couple of weeks (hate painting), Chris (channa)
