Help needed to find a builder in the Kinglake area
Hi there,
I found your forum on a website and it looks really good.
I was wondering if anyone could help me. We bought an acre block of land in Kinglake recently, which has a 1:5 fall. We have been to the volume builders and they pretty much dont want to build it because of the site issues, as they prefer to build their brick veneer houses on concrete waffle slabs on a flat block. The site is cleared and in great order, The gradient only goes one way, and thats down the mountain, which is why we bought it, for the veiws.
We are now considering and timber home and like the new designs that have been built along the Great Ocean Road, Beach House type looking places from Torquay onwards. I really like the idea of tiber and lots of glass to make the most of the views.
The problem we seem to be having is finding a builder up that way who will build a house that doesnt look like a mobile home or a tree cubby house. Whilst we know that a few people around the traps, they seem to charge a fortune to build something a bit different that should cost the same or less that a brick veneer home.
Does anyone know a reputable builder/s who is say are between Whittlesea and Hurstbridge or Greensborough, who might like to help us. We are looking to build something around the 30 square mark, with at least 2 living areas, 4 bedrooms, study and something that looks nice and modern but not weird!!!
Look forward to hearing from anyone with ideas.
Anne

I know that there are one or two builders living up there, ask the publican - he'll know, he knows everyone.
