Our "wood" bandsaw at school started its life off as an industrial "meat" bandsaw. It is a monster and works really well.
Only draw back is that it doesn't tilt or have a fence....I guess if it was for cutting up a cow, it didn't really need it.
Cheers,
Chipman

Inadvertently? A mate's grandfather kept an old bandsaw specifically for cutting slices off his bulk-bought and frozen steaks. My mate got hold of this saw recently and couldn't work out why it was cutting wood so badly....until he realised the blade was on upside down.

i have one and am using it as a band saw , but not ideal but i already had it so thats what i use .
if and when i can afford it i will be getting a proper woodworking bandsaw.
this one is huge in weight big cast iron frame 3phase motor , but the meat saws lack a few things blade speed is slower not much in the fence department no tilt on the table , blade guides not the best but for now thats what i am stuck with .

i have an old home made bandsaw made by my late father inlaw that i have every intention of using as a bandsaw for cutting curves and the like in no more than 30 mm timber as it only has a 1 hp motor, home made guides and height setting, all will do just fine, i have a bigger one though i use it for ripping and a blade change is a hassle all the time
regards chowcini
