Well, well, well. While Al's artistry leaves little to be said I must add the sound of a hundred people chatting in gutteral tones about twisted old pieces of metal, some of which are meant to be that shape, it was awe inspiring. I don't know why they don't hold this event in a temple - there was much worshiping going on.
The damage a 1910ish No7 and No5 - beautifully flat square and sharp, $275, took them home to test and was rewarded with the magic shniiik sound as ribbons of wood curled effortlessly to the floor.
I'd like the thank the organisers for thinking of the playground outside, it was a perfect place to suggest SWMBO take the kids while I negotiated my purchase. Forgivness is easier to get than permission.

Ozwinner was wondering how a bloke like you could have such a good wife and kids? I didn't have a go at him for making such a comment because he had just finished sulking after I made him take off his pink tutu, fishnet stockings and stilletto heels and wear something a little more appropriate.
You have a wonderful little family and I wish I had got into handtools when our family was that age instead of waiting until they were older. Good move Dave.
Did you have to tune them up or were they OK (the planes)? It sounds like you struck an excellent deal.
You should post some pictures of them so we can all drool - don't be selfish.

Thanks for the tip Dave, I might take my grandaughter next time and perhaps gain a bedrock for nicks.

It's just that, never having meet you, I couldn't identify you in Al's wonderful pen drawing of this special event.

Al,
Have you given the block plane and the spokeshave a run yet after you shot off yesterday?

I arrived at 8:50 am to be standing in a queue of 50 -60 blokes (a couple of the fairer sex as well). When the doors opened at a couple of mins to 9(am)
I was like a kid in a lolly shop. These shows certainly attract a good crowd.
A noticable supply of handplanes around the room & some tools I have never seen before.(pardon my ignorance) Came away with a few little bits & pieces, but was not suprised by the high price of some stands. What was noticable was the preparation of the old tools mostly restored to a high standard.
(not much FeO2 present!!)
Days like that I wished I lived in Melb, However as for the bloody delays in peak hour traffic and smashes on the Westgate, I'm glad I live in country Vic.
Regards Sandman.

Sorry Al,
I agree, poor choice of words after reviewing . Let me try again.
What work have you done with the new purchases after you left my place?
