Melbourne woodwork volunteer needed
Firstly, excuse me for starting a thread with a post count of zero. I just discovered these amazing forums.
I currently teach (facilitate?) a woodwork class in an old people's home in Kew, Melbourne. I am having to go O/S soon and am desperate for the class not to fold.
I am hoping that someone on this forum can spare 1-2hrs a week to take over my class. Some details:
Usually there are 4 attendees, none suffering from dementia, although 2 have only got the use of one arm, but were once both fairly expert amateur woodworkers. 2 are perfectly able, although not as strong as they once were. I usually stick to basic projects involving simple cutting and gluing. I don't use any power tools except a cordless drill/driver under supervision. We have made things like tool boxes, picture frames and ornamental wheelbarrows so far.
I can say from experience that this is a highly rewarding role. We have some sponsorship from Home Hardware in Richmond, so you won't have to outlay anything but your time. I currently run the class from 2.30-3.30 on Saturday, but a weekday would be perfectly suitable.
One day we may all be in their position, but I can say that the joy they get from their simple projects equals the pleasure that I get from my more complicated ones.
If you are interested, please email me at [email protected]
Thanks for reading. If you are not interested, but know someone who might be, maybe you could print this off and pass on to them?

Good luck finding somebody .... it looks worthwhile for anybody with the time.
Are you going to return or is it a long term job?
I will not be able to help but a few more details may assist others. Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. Be sure to check out the Binford 6100 - available now at any good tool retailer.

No, I won't be returning in the near future. This would be an ongoing commitment. I take probably one Saturday off each month, the commitment is not arduous, and the rewards are immense, in terms of the quality of life that is gained by the men.
Without meaning to be too schmaltzy, these men were once where we are today, and for me it was a way of putting something back into the hobby that I love.
I worked a full time job and trained 3 times a week on top of this, which was sometimes a bit much, but would recommend it to anyone.
