Melbourne WWW 2007
It was great to go to the Forum stand at the WWW - even though it is at the back of Jeff's Shed - to put faces to the names of forumites: Groggy, John, Scooter, Chesand, Template Tom, Neil and - my apologies to all the others who called by or were working at the stand, ( should have taken notes).
Congratulations on the forum - Neil? Groggy? for taking the oportunity to publicise the great resource that is this forum.
Which reminds me that I must get a cap before the next WWW.
Now I have to calibrate my metal detector so I can use my new pry bars!!
The show seems to be well set out - a bit more room than last year - good displays and some interesting demos.
Parking was a problem - be prepared to walk but it may be better on the weekend without the office workers in the city.
Regards,Smithy

Watcha Get???
After my wife convincing me to spend on major machinery the last two WWW's, bless her little heart, I needed bits and pieces this year.
Curved scraper and handle from McJing
Some brass hardware and rare earth magnets for boxes
Pen kit because I always wanted to try
Topped up the Shellawax and EEE
Some knobs handles etc from the woodpecker
Pin jaws
other knick knacks
How about you??

'I was happy to get a platter sized lump of well coloured camphor laurel, bowl blank crotch piece of crow's ash and a figured bowl blank of southern mahogony. Also a couple of unhandled Crown turning tools at half price: 32mm wide skew and a dovetail chisel which was cheaper than a HSS blank. (from http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...t=57019&page=2 )'
Cheers, Ern

I managed a 5/8" bowl gouge (chiwanese from Mik), some unhandled crown scrapers, an unhandled ring tool, a mcjing cup/ring cutter, some sandpaper, & a few other bits & bobs.
Good day. Good to meet a few new faces at the WWF stand.
Cheers..................Sean

a metric set of Forstner bits
a veritas honing guide
an abrasive cleaning stick
ubeaut polisher's handbook
plyco samples
a set of hitchmasters (I know, they'll rust at the bottom of the tool box Scooter, but I just couldn't resist, that pitch with the engine block was so damn good!)
enough cabinetmaking books to give me a sore neck on the train from lugging my backpack.
that was all I could carry
if you want to save yourself some money, don't drive there!Do nothing, stay ahead

Yep Scooter. At the boxmakers brassware but I had to ask him. They were away at the back.
I got 6mm for some box lids. What are you going to lift with 33mm?? The engine block???

G'day,
Grabbed some EEE and Traditional Wax, router switch and nylon washers from PWS, a stick of green polishing gunk and a few bits for Dj.
Got home a remembered that I forgot to grab a 1/4" or 6mm plug hole cutter which I need this week. Should've grabbed a set of metric forstner bits but I didn't - probably regret that too.

... should've picked up Saw Tooth bits too. Doh.
Need a 5/8 hole in a handle to take the tang for the 32mm skew. If only I hadn't been smart and predrilled the hole before roughing I could've used an expanding bit.
Sigh, off to Bunnies.Cheers, Ern

The forstners were a real good deal, which probably means I can use each one halfway through the first job. Anybody have any history with those? (carba-tec)

Yep. The std jobs will wear fairly quickly on hardwood so get a triangular file and bone up on sharpening. Take it slow esp. with the big ones as you can generate enough heat to discolour your wood.
Cheers, Ern
