    Default Merbau Fence.....Advice needed..:)

    Hi Guys,

well first time posting.....long time stalker of these forums

Finally up to fencing one side of our property(after a year of solid internal renovations), looking at doing it in merbau 90mm couple of things

    1. What is the maximum distance for the merbau slats between posts?
    2. Does $3.95 per metre sound about right?
    3. Going to try and achieve a finsh like the picture below....how have they done the posts in the picture...looks like they have got 100x45 and sandwiched the planks inbetween...and the capping on the posts (something off the shelf or do you wack them up youself)

    1. i think whatever you'd like it to be, privacy vs strength, there is probably a standard whereby the gap on the slats will determine the distance apart you'r uprights will need to be.

    2. its been few years since i did my deck in merbou / qwila but that sounds about right, although i'm no pricing/shopping expert.

    3. The pic hides a few details, but if i were doing that fencepost i'd be using 90x90 or 100x100 posts and using a circular saw with guide(or table saw) to rip up the central groves either side of the posts and chisel them out, then installing the posts, then stringlining the heights level and marking each post and cutting the points off with an angle set on the circular saw (be careful and dont work overhead with a circular), and then straight cutting into either side of those to create a nailing shelf for those top horizontal slats to sit into.

I'm no expert, but thats the way i'd approach it.
