Merbau question
Hey guys. I've just laid a fair whack of my decking in merbau.
Now this morning, after a evening of removing the annoying stickers off the ends of the boards the wood seems to have lost a bit of it's colour.
I only used warm-hot water and a scotch bright to get rid of the sticker and glue.
Have I ruined the wood? It has yet to be oiled.

Merbau is notorious for "bleeding" when new. Left untreated, the deck will mellow to a light grey and stay that way. If you plan to TRY to keep the deep red colour, you will need to treat the surface at least once a year with a decking stain/preservative. It is a lot of work to maintain this colour as merbau just wants to be "light grey". In your attempt to remove the labels, you have helped the process of bleeding, hence the light grey. If you want to return to the red, you can try a coat of Feast & Watson deck preservative, it may return the original colour, but test it first on a bit of waste after you have done the hot water thing on it.
Best of luck. Remember though, merbau just wants to be light grey!!!!!!!!
