Thread: Micro Dovetails

  1. #1

    Default Micro Dovetails

Micro dovetailing jigs for making pen and small jewellery boxes (cufflinks, rings etc.). Is there such things and are they available in the UK?

I'd like to dovetail hardwood and softwood perhaps 1/4" or 1/8" thick. Am I dreaming?

You could cut them by hand in 1/4" timber with a Japanese saw but I don't know of any jigs.

You might have a look at the tips for the Dremel, I don't think they do a dovetail bit but you might be able to form one out of a bit of 3.2mm HSS to suit.

Probably the easiest way is to cut them by hand. Have a look on the box-making forum at 'Box Bits' for some instructions on cutting dovetails. For very thin wood, you can use a razor saw available from hobby shops.
