    Default Making Mirror

A simple question, but I hope someone will be able to answer. I'm making three mirrors for my son and two of his mates who will turn 21 next week. I've rebated the inner of the wood, where the mirror will sit, and intend putting on a backboard of 3ml MDF.

Qestion is do I need to put anything in the rebate to hold the mirror in place ( and if so what - I'd thought perhaps selly's clear sealant) or can I just leave it to the MDF to hold it in place?

    Thanks.

The back is usually all you need to hold it together

Its difficult to answer questions on the forum about mirors without wondering if its going to reflect badly on me

Having gotten the obvious joke out of the way....

dont put any sealer in, or it may not allow for the natural movement of the wood and this may break the miror if the fit is too tight. allow a couple of mm around the outside of the mirror to allow for shrinkage, put your mdf over the back and it should all be good. Happy birthday from me to all 3 21 year-olds

You can always do what I did to an annoying bloke not long ago, after repairing the same frame twice in as many months...

...ask him where he wants the mirror, screw top, bottom and one side directly into noggins/studs, slide the glass in and finally fix the last side.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Be careful with silicone products - some of their active ingredients (not sure which) will eat into the silver mirror backing.
