Mitre Joint
A little advice please girls and boys.
I'm making a dining table out of some Studley reject stuff. The design is a 1600mm square with bread board style ends that are mitred to the legs.
My question is how to strengthen the joint over the spline I have already cut. A rail will go between the legs however I have discarded tenons on the rails as I think getting everything to align for glueing will be too much even with the wiggle room allowed for in the spline.
I have considered through splines as per Rockers Z joint but I don't think it will suit the look.
The pics show progress so far.
So what do you think?

why not make 2 pieces I.E. join 2 pieces together to make 1 half of the frame. Do this with the other 2 pieces. When the glue has dried on both halves then join them together to make a whole

Thanks for the response I'm not sure I'm quite with you but you have given me an idea.
Make the rail in two pieces a braced butt or half lap joint in the middle and loose tenon each piece to the leg. A bit of messing around but this would allow me to glue up the mitres I'm using thickened epoxy then fit the rail afterwards.
