Default Mitre joint with biscuit joint

    hello,

I am making a table with a glass top and table top frame made of timber which will be joined in a rectangular shape using a mitre joint. I was wondering if a buiscuit joint was ok for this mitre joint? Strong enough? Easy to do in a school workshop? If not what would you suggest to join the mitre joint.

    thanks

    Hi and welcome,

Yes a biscuit joint would be ok but not ideal, perfect solution would be a floating tenon.

I've made a coffee table with yr10 students using construcion very similar to what I think you are proposing and it does work it can be done (as long as you have a biscuit joiner)
Have a nice day - Cheers

    Hey again,

Using biscuits would be fine however a little more refined method would be to use splines which is much like the butchers suggestion.

Taige Frid (Famous Yank Woodworker) champions this kind of joinery and even suggests that its stronger than Dovetailing
