    Default Modern Masters

Did anyone see modern Masters last night. There was a craftsman on there building a timber frame home completely by hand, this included shaping the beams etc.

The commentator said there were 2000 mortise and tenon joins in the frame. If he took 10 minutes each to make the joins he would be cutting them for over 8 weeks. Each join was then pinned by a hand made wooden dowel, no glue. On top of that he cuts and shapes everything by hand. Must be some patient people over in the States.

Didn't see the show. Sounds like Ryan Archer's nirvana.

There's a man here in Aust. who did similar - Rob Hadden. His wife is part of the Owner builder crew now. He made an English style studio with hand shaped timbers M & T'd together. The walls are of rendered mudbrick, and he hand made something like 7000 tiles for the roof. He even made his own 'recreated sandstone' lintels that have been shaped and carved, and the vanity top of the same material. He's one amazingly skilled and patient man. The building has a spiral chimney out of red brick, too. Building progress was followed and featured in OB magazines, but also Country Style magazine featured it.

    Cheers,

    Jill

    Yes Stubchain,

I saw the episode (Have enjoyed the series) and was very impressed.

Laughed when he said that no one is allowed to use steel hammers.

It was very a interesting show, I have a feeling that I may have recorded it. I think they were Armish (spelling??), a German decendant religious group I think. As far as I know, they use no electricity, & still travel by foot or horse & cart.
The fact remains, that 97% of all statistics are made up, yet 87% of the population think they are real.
