    Default T-Molding

    Hello all,

    Quick question:

Can anyone recommend/suggest anyone in Melb (preferably somewhere in the West) that sells 1" (25mm) black T-Molding?

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Cheers

    Gday Alan

Do you mean that plastic strip that is used around desks & tables made of laminated chipboard & the like? Bunnings have that stuff in the flooring section if that's the one.

No connection, blah blah...oh yeah, I work there though

    Alan,
Lincoln Sentry should stock it or be able to get it in.

    Scooter,
the T mould for furniture has a barbed section which presses into a kerf you machine into the board edge. I think this will probably be different to the floor mouldings.

Gday Mick, I think I know the floor mouldings you're referrring to, but they also have the other plastic edging stuff on a roll in that section.

Dunno why it's there, maybe a flooring product supplier produces it??

Sorry Mick, you were right. The stuff in the flooring section does have the barbed stem, but is apparently for covering joins between flooring types.

    Funny you should say that...

I'm actually going to use it around the edge of the top of a PacMan cocktail cabinet (MAME)

I think I have a Clark Rubber store nearby actually.

If that doesn't work out I'll look at Lincoln Sentry..there website shows they sell 28mm t-molding. That could work.

And...there's always Bunnnings, or did you decide scooter, that they don't have it?

Thanks for the tips everyone. Very much appreciated.

    Cheers

Gday Alan, bunnings do have it, it's primary use though is as a trim strip between flooring types, in doorways, etc.

It does have a barbed "stem" which would be a push fit in a kerf to use it as edging, it is fairly wide though, 25-30mm would be on the money at a guess.

    Cheers Scooter.

I'll check it out this weekend.

    Question for ya though:

The actual width of the table top is 24mm. Would you know how easy it is to trim larger sized t-molding to the correct width or is it too dodgy to make it look good?

    Cheers!

Nah, haven't done it Alan but might be difficult to get an even cut. Could always orient the cut side down though to be less obrusive.

Just occurred to me, I think that on the bunnings stuff the stem was offset to one side a bit, this may work in your favour.
