Thread: mortise and through tenon table and bench plans?

Hello,
Was getting sentimental about a family table and benches set we had when I was a child in the 70's. It was a very basic table and benches where the benches fit snugly under the table when not in use. The table and benches did not have four legs each, only two, in the middle at the ends. Does that set up have a special name? I know nothing about woodworking except from wikipedia I saw the leg joints were mortise and tenon joints and I remember the joints went right through and even had another piece through them on the outside to stop them sliding out I suppose. I don't remember how the table top was attached.
The table and benches were solid as given they were made of soft pine. Soft enough for the heavy handed naughty writing of a nine year old to remain imprinted on the table top for years after....
anyhow. I'd like to get hold of some plans for such a table and benches so as to contemplate making a set for myself one day. If anyone can give me information about the types of joints used, the name of this kind of table and bench set and/or plans that would be great.

p.s did the photo come up? This photo was from google but basicallly the type of bench I'm talking about though it looks much nicer than ours did!
p.p.s also what are the components of the pieces called? like what is that rail underneath, the legs, the feet, called? do they have woodworking names?
