Default Mosaic Table Base - Design?

SWMBO is creating a 60cm square mosiac table with a geometric design and she's asked me to make the base.

Most mosaic tales you see have these insectile cast iron bases like the one below.

To me they make the table look a bit tippy. Has anyone madea timber base for this type of table before? What are some of the design considerations, proportions, material weight taken into account?

    Pedestal or 4 legs? Ahh!

    Cheers,

    Adam

I'd go pedistal the whole purpose of the insectile legs is so that the table top is the feature

Good luck with it and keep us posted

I'm in the throws of making a table top for a friend (OK, I've been stalled for a year or so) so she can put a mosaic on it.

The base unit is one of those 'cast iron' Market Umbrella stands. The top is 2x12mm disks of ply (salvage from Council cleanup) that will be epoxied all over, then attached with screws to a block of hardwood, say 100x100x45, with a 30mm hole for a hardwood dowel upright. The block will have a saw cut on one side to the central hole & a cross bolt fitted so the block can be tightened around the dowel, but the dowel can be removed is necessary for storage in future.

Mine are also on iron legs but only until I work out a good design in wood.
