Cant put brains in statues
Thanks to those who made constructive suggestions and explained why this motor is unsuitable. For the record I bought if off ebay, the original owner demonstrated the motor to me. It was quiet, not too fast, spindle extended through both sides of the motor so it can run 2 wheels so I bought it. I was aware of the exposed nature of the motor but I always intended to make a wooden cover for it. Countless others on this forum have wired a switch to a motor to power a sander or buffer etc. I thought it wasn't too difficult to do but if one must learn a load of electrical theory as well as understand the specifics of motors then I'll leave this for another day or for someone else to do. I would however like to be able to recognise potential dangerous electric situations as I use a number of machines on a regular basis.
