Moulded ply query
Hi All,
I have an idea for a shelf bracket made from a piece of moulded ply and am having trouble finding manufacturers in Melbourne. The actual shape is not critical and is best described as an open-partial-S shape. A number of shapes would work..could be a chair back, part of a coffee table etc. (A section of pfeiffer offi-mag would work but would stick out from the wall too far). I've tried Worthington Ind. (lots of shapes but unhelpful). Veneerforms in Coburg have been helpful and have at least one shape that would work but the mould is for upholstery quality pressings so pretty rough (by their own admission). Does anybody know of any custom furniture producers or manufacturers in Melb that produce moulded ply sections other than the two I have mentioned?
Tks

I work for Dewhurst Furniture in Moorabbin and we might be able to help; we've done quite a bit of work in bending ply, both upholstery- and furniture-grade. Do you have any pics of what you're looking for?

I have the piece from Veneerform that I can photograph next week. (It's not here with me at the moment). I have attached a basic sketch. The piece can be anywhere from about 450mm-650mm end to end and a min of 200mm deep. Obviously I can slice either way to get the section I need out of a bigger or more complex piece. The travel away from the wall (the depth of the "s") eeds to be a min of 80mm so I can get to the sockets that sit behind it (which is the whole idea of having a panel...to hide the cables and sockets). 80mm is ok as I can recess these fittings if need be. The shelf will sit on top of this piece and a similar or simpler piece will support the other end.

Definitely looks like something we can do, but as we will have to make a custom jig we'll need either a sample or a sketch with the dimensions you require. We're at 2/30 Cochranes rd Moorabbin if you want to drop in to work out the details

I am looking for a something that is already part of something else. As soon as we start talking set-up and one off manufacture I know we are in the hundreds..I am looking for damaged goods or something out of the "oops" bin.
Tks anyway

No probs. If Veneerforms have the shape you need just with a rough finish, I can press some veneer to it to make it look more presentable
