Mucky face shield
Did a search and didn't find a mention of it ,so here goes
I have a couple of face shields (that everyone uses right?)
was going to get another 'cos it was getting hard to see anything.I squirted some armourall on them and polished them off and Viola! almost good as new except for the gouge where a random orbiting chunk of silky oak bounced off
try it

I worked in the metal polishing industry for a number of years, the polishers , when the shield became scratched would polish the clear with AUTOSOL polish.
This is a cream polish with extremely fine abrasive &polishing compounds , the polishing was done by hand ,not machine, and with a soft clean cotton cloth only.

Yep the Armourall will not last very long but similar to VK4 I usually use Brasso. The fine abrasive polishes off a lot of the small scratches and the polish removes rubbish and yes Viola almost like new.

I'm Finished
I was trained as a Rolls Royce coachpainter and enjoy applying the tricks of the trade to wood finishing to see what works, I see you speak French too LOL
Sorry about the Viola I like fiddling with puns
Voilà ici no? (feel free to groan) toothpaste works too !

You can also:
"lenibus uti liquido fricat abrasive removere, deinde perpolire molli panno."
This should remove all but the worst marks, and provide a clean surface close to new. The best mild abrasive I have found is "Mothers" aluminium polishing cream.Last edited by wun4us; 5th November 2011 at 08:27 AM. Reason: Add to

as long as no one goes and starts with WELSH . Silvo Silver polish is finerthan Brasso, and will do a good job on the face shield as well.

Will have to try some of these! But I suspect 50% of my problem is that I finally have to admit I need glasses! :

Mothers aluminium paste is made for polishing aluminium bullbars and other aluminium alloy products. It does however, serve well in many other uses such as polishing perdpex/plastic face shields, and taking scratches off plastic lenses on spectacles.
Another use we have for it, is cleaning the shower screen glass from the inevitable watermarks that hang around even though the enclosre is wiped after each use.

I just started turning and so far no scratches on the face shield from turning pieces. Only after switches off the lathe and lifting the shield above my head and forgetting it is on my head.
Some good ideas to try out.
