music box movements
Hi all
I am trying to find a retailer of music box movements. The movement I want sits on the inside base of a jewellery box and has the stopper mechanism mounted on top of the movement which is topped off with a ballerina. The (broken) movement I have is around 50mm x 50mm and 25mm high without the stopper.
I have searched the web for Australian sites with no luck. There are a few o/s sites (anyone ordered from Rockler.com?) but I would prefer local if possible.
Any help appreciated.

If you can't buy local then Rockler is recommended, and used by many forum members.

Hi, I know that I am located in Brisbane,
but I have found a few different stores here that sell them.
PhotoContinental - is a photography shop, but also has a gift sideshop that I saw them in recently. I have also seen them in a games store. You those shoops that sell all the fancy board games (eg Chess with Lord of the Rings figurienes, fancy electronic games, etc... )
Photocontinental is on line, http://www.photocontinental.com.au/ and there is a link to their store (but doesn't really display their range.
Hope you have some success.
Greg.

Due to one of those inexplicable phenomena that seem to abound these days, you may be able to buy a whole jewelry box cheaper than just the movement.
Same goes for clock movements and watches. Why pay $40 or whatever for a clock movement, when you can get a perfectly good clock for $3.00 and re-use it's innards?
Check out "Wearhouse" type outlets, or even toy shops.
Cheers,
P

Jonathon Knowles claim to have Australia’s largest range of musical movement and accessories.
Might be worth sending an email to them.

Sprog is on the right path. Had to do something about five years ago that needed these and i got them mail ordered from Jonathon Knowles. They have the best range of clock movements i've found in Oz. Mind you, clock making went in the bin after the Christmas when the family told me i gave them all one the previous year. D'Oh!

When will it happen to me?:)

Disston,
This Ebayer has 9 different tunes to choose from and they are the same 18 note Sankyo as found on the Jonathon Knowles web site (Different case though, plain white plastic) but are "Buy it now" for $4! I purchased one from him (Sorcerers Apprentice tune) to see if it could be used in a music box (Turned off when the lid shuts). And as you can see on the Jonathon Knowles site they sell levers to do just that!
