Default Myrtle 4 drawer coffee table

Pic 1: I cut the top dovetail sockets on the legs before shaping them.
Pic 2: The front and back frames were assembled with the sides dry fitted to check on fit & appearance
Pic 3: Dry assembled with centre runners & kickers.
    Pic 4: The glue up
    Pic 5: The finished table
Pic 6: Close up of drawer dovetails.

The legs were bandsawn roughly to shape, then cleaned up with a spokeshave and scraper. The frames were M&T joined, and the sides morticed into the legs.
The table was sanded to 800 grit, given a coat of thinned shellac as a sanding sealer, re-sanded & finished with 3 coats of satin wipe-on polyurethane.

I like the two big dovetails.

so beautiful! shame the beauty of those dovetails are hidden, but I suppose it makes seeing them even more special when you use the drawers.

Nice work, as you always seem to do Alex

I really like the dovetails, and the shape of the legs is very subtle, but adds even more elegance to the piece.

    Dave

Thanks folks. The client's happy & so am I. I initially thought about doing something a bit 'less subtle', but it wouldn't have suited the rest of the furniture.

Really like the "expanding legs", instead of tapering. Makes it really ON the ground. Do the draws go all the way through and open from both sides?

Will have to show HWMBO! He tried to tell me people didn't do coffee tables with draws. And what would you put in them anyway? If the remotes were in there it would just be another place where they weren't.

My wife didn't buy that BS and I am making a table with a drawer as we speak. We have a huge number of remotes but just use one universal remote now. But we still have to put them all somewhere....

Hi TL. The drawers were originally going to go all the way through, but after thinking about difficulties with allowing for movement of the bottom, I decided to go with 4 drawers.
They are for the remotes and the lady of the house to keep her magazines in.
