Newbie needs Help!
Hello everyone. My name is Philip and I am new to posting here, even though I have been active in reading the posts and browsing for a long time. I have been trying to get into the woodworking slowly making projects for Valentines and Birthdays so far. I have my first project someone wants me to make and buy from me and have ten thousand questions. (maybe not that many) This person wants a Jelly cupboard, I have made a plan and am sure I can handle the project. I think I would like to use 1/2" plywood or something of that nature, not sure yet.
This person wants an estimate, that is where the first question comes in. I have no clue about pricing or marketing what so ever.
Not sure what wood to use. (don't want to expensive)
Making the cabinet should not be a problem as I have done this before kinda. I am a little nervous about the estimate and making it look professional.
Thank ypou any suggestions will be much apreciated.
P.S. I can give more detail as I get it.

Well, Philip from the Phillipines, welcome!
You need to agree the design and finish with the customer first, then detail it in an invoice.
No need to go overboard or get too fancy, just make it very clear what you are providing and for how much money.

Some how you have ended up in the turning section. Which probably means the moderators are going to move you to the right place, which is good as you will get the info you need faster.
Anyway welcome, we don't get very many from the Phils on this forumInspiration exists, but it has to find you working. — Pablo Picasso

Philip,
for your estimate you'll need to have a rough plan from which you can calculate a bill of materials (a list of all the materials you'll need, timber, ply, fasteners, finish etc etc) Don't forget to charge for workshop materials like sandpaper, turps to clean brushes and glue. Work out how much mark up you'll add to the materials, this will help to cover the cost of your time to find and buy them. That's the easy part, after you work all that out you'll need to work out the two hardest price components:
How many hours labour should I allow?
How much per hour can/should I charge?
Good luck!

I think its a typo, he means jolly cupboard, you know mirrors on the ceiling, fluffy handcuffs, leather, that sort of stuff.
Boring signature time again!

I like outback's explanation,
I was picturing something more along the lines of furniture that could be found in Sponge Bob Square Pants's house.
A soft squishy cupboard that you could lean up against after a few cool brews.

ohhhhh, on of THOSE cupboards.
I think I like the idea of outback and rocker's cupbards better. In fact remind me if I ever visit either of them to have a quick look in their cupboards.........
