veneer softening
Howdy all, does anyone know where to find veneer softener in Australia? I have been reading up and there seem to be a few brands, I was looking for something called super soft2. googling for any brand in OZ seems as productive as asking the dog. I know it is available from veneer supplies in USA but to ship 40$ worth of goodies will cost 80$ post. Any help would be appreciated. FJ

You can make your own, too.
From the book '14 Wooden Boxes You Can Make', Jim Harrold, Schiffer Publishing.
This is for softening and flattening veneer:
The recipe:
2 parts white PVA
1 part glycerin
1 part alcohol
3-4 parts water
The method:
Spray or brush mixture on both sides of veneer. Repeat as necessary to keep the piece wet for 30 minutes. Place several sheets of ink-free newsprint either side and press lightly between plywood panels.
After 30 min, replace the paper, then again every 1-2 hours for 8 hours, increasing stack pressure progressively each time. Maintain pressure overnight.... Steve

Much obliged gents. Great info. I hope I can have more success than my last veneer efforts. And maybe even have a photo worth putting up . Thanks again. Fj
