Thanks Dennis, You owe me forty minutes I spent looking at Banggood but I did compare prices on the Kerfmaker and they are better than half price compared to Ebay so I bought one.

Not if there is no international protected IP on the item. It may have protection in the US but not elsewhere as well which makes it available for copying as well. I have been at the wrong end of a patent dispute in which the latter was the case and did not receive anything for my trouble.

It's only a counterfeit if they claim it is BCT. Which they don't.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

I liked it, and took me 40sec to find, but 40min to figure out that Banggood didn’t like opening in IE, so opened in Chrome and whalla. 2 now on their way, one for me and one for my club which I’m sure they will reimburse me for. If not I will kindly donate as the help I receive from the wealth of knowledge is priceless.

This tool actually looks like it could be handy. The original BCT version is $85- vs $27- for the knock-off. Normally I would be opposed to Chinese clones of tools designed / made originally by another manufacturer, but it's a bit trickier in this case because both are owned and made in China - so live by the sword die by the sword seems appropriate.

I wonder if there is any quality difference or whether they actually roll off the same production line.

    Cheers,

    Dom

My experience with Chinese made tools are not to trust their measurements, but as this is set by 1. Calipers to the kerf thickness, and 2. The thickness of the piece of timber, there’s no way it could be mis-measured. It maybe made in the same factory and possibly ones that came off the line and didn’t pass muster who knows. But I’m willing to take a $27 gamble as opposed to $87.

i bought some business shirts a few years back that you’d swear were from the Polo factory, but in this case they lasted longer than the real deal, and they too were $25 vs $120, so massive savings all round, it was just missing the man riding the horse.

I made mine out of a piece of wood and a couple of screws, thanks to good ol' Pask:

Not quite as slick as the machined version, but it works well.

Is this just a kerf jig for dadoes and the like?? (haven't watched the vid yet sorry) If so, there's a plethora of DIY made ones, like this one that you can have tomorrow rather than waiting a few weeks for banggood or whoever to deliver

    Ouch!

Was in Brisbane last month and had some time to kill so, like most woodies, I hit a few tool places I don’t normally have access to except by phone/internet etc. I went to Carbatec, possibly, probably for the last time.

I was aware that Bridge City Tools had been sold to a Chinese company but Carbatec is now stocking Bridge City tools. I bought the marked Bridge City Toolworks KM-1 kerfmaker, Signature Series with a US Patent number and in very small writing “Made in China”. It looks good and appears to be well made but has not as yet been used. It came in a box, with a small instruction booklet in English, Chinese and French.

I had tried to buy one of these years ago from the US but with our $ and postage etc the price was prohibitive. I ummed and arhed but ended up buying it. Unfortunately Carbatec’s price was $85. I don’t think I’ll have buyer’s remorse with the product but the price differential could be another story.

    Caveat Emptor.
    Regards,
    Bob

Did anybody receive the Kerfmaker jet?

    What is your first impression?
