Unhappy What is a nice dark brown timber?

I have done my research and I'm so frustrated of the fact that, no forum, no search or any research has lead me straight to the point of what timber has a nice dark brown colour to it. Due to that being the case, I'm oblivious to what stain or finish to use. Someone please help! It would be much appreciated, thanks.

    Antonio.

What do you mean by dark brown? Not red like red gum I guess. Iron bark, black bean, blackwood, black wallnut, queensland wallnut maybe!

Old growth Jarrah is a deep dark brown but good luck in finding it in Sydney. Here is WA the Salvage yards are full of it and reasonably price too.

You could try Peruvian Walnut. It is a deep rich brown. (some would say almost purple). Here's what it looks like.

Black hearted sasafras (spelling ?) looks nice, but I have no idea if it can be obtained. I was given a few bits, enough to make a small box many years ago but that is the only bit I have ever seen.

I do live in QLD. The little bit I saw was just big enough to make a small pencil box and it was a brown with streaks of other colors. I would love a bit more in fact. DO you have some then?

    Default The Brown Wood.

    Hi Antonia,
I was thinking of Purpleheart, as if you do the wrong thing with it in finish, it will go brown.
The other one is Lilly Pilly, not real Dark Brown but Brown all the same.
It is a very Bland Timber.
I also have some Jarrah, & it is almost Brown.
    Regards,
    issatree.
