Just got in from my first night at Thornlie Tech night classes.
A bit boring as we just played with some hand held routers/trimmers and biscuit jointers.
Half of the class didnt know which end of the router to put against the wood so they are on a sharp learning curve. Old man woody here has got a powerfull 600w GMC so not excited with that bit.
Had my first use of the biscuit jointer though, not overly impressed, quick and easy yes but doesnt seem to give a positive alignment, we didnt actually glue though. Ive done a couple of dowel joints myself and they are satisfyingly firm even without glue.
Heard my first induction motor, surprised how quite they are. He showed us through the large machines then discussed our individual choice of projects.
Cant wait to get started next week.
Going with cheap and easy Radiata Pine from Bunnings for my chunky coffee table with drawer.
Will be asking more about wood with sibsequent projects though, the teacher didnt seem to be interested in discussing wood. "two choices, Pine or Jarrah".
Anyway that's enough for now, I'll do some catching up on the other conversations.
