Night Stand (WIP)
I am working on a couple of nightstands for my sons. I have started and restarted.........
Went from plan to cutting/glueing........Bought some thicker wood........Drew a more detailed plan.......
I am trying to actually build this per plan instead of free ballin' like I usually do.
On the Drawer (it will have a single drawer) I am trying to decide if I should make the front the same size as the hole in the table.......or oversize it and have it close with a lip. The apron/stringer will provide a nice "seal" on the top and bottom of the shelf but there is nothing on the sides of the drawer other than the legs. I have a few pics so far.........I have no scanner so the picture of the sketch is the best I can do to give you an idea of what I am thinking.
If any of you have input please feel free to throw it out there. These will be constructed out of Cherry as the base wood with Lacewood veneer on the drawer front and top.
Will post up some pics as I go. I hope you enjoy them.

Just a few pics of it in the larva stage. Forgive the lack of clarity in the plan. If you squint you can see what it will look like.

This is a diagram of the space that is tormenting me. Should the drawer have some vertical piece beside it or just butt up against the legs? Forgive the crude drawing on MS paint.

I have had the pleasure of building three nightstands over the past year and my comment would be to leave the drawer flush with the legs.
Make the drawer oversize slightly and then plane down by hand to fit the aperture.
The space below would come in handy for a Po

Looking good, and should be a nice piece of furniture on completion. Marking out the base piece is a better way than I have practiced in the past.

Thanks for the replies. Got the routing done/panels/glue is dried.
A couple more snaps for those interested. The one pic that looks like it's done is the back. Still need to construct the top and drawer. Cross your fingers.

Few more pics........got the dovetails cut (first time on drawer construction)
One of the pics show the face of the drawer front which was wet to show curly figure.
The other one looks odd because it was dried partially but I think it will look decent once finished.
Planning tung oil for this one.
Enjoy the pics.

Junk, it's wood on wood.........never tried it before but I don't like the idea of using ball bearing slide on this type of furniture. Cross fingers that wax will do the trick.
Thanks for the replies all.

Firewalker,
Don't have any worries about having wood on wood as the runner system, they have been doing that for centuries.
Nice looking project.woody U.K.
