NORTON 5X Contour Sanding Pads
Hi all,
I've recently purchased a sampler pack of the above product from Lee Valley Tools in Canada.
There 18 assorted grit sizes in the pack and they were around $20.
To my horror they cost just over $50AUS to send them (and still coming)!
I approached Mr Sandpaperman to see if he would stock them but did not even get the courtesy of a reply...
Do any of you people out there know of any stockists of the product in Australia ?
At this stage I have been unable to find any...

The problem is with the way postal charges are calculated - there is a minimum charge regardless, then there are additions based on weight or volume - so something that is very light but bulky can be horrendously expensive to ship by post, and Lee Valley (or any of the US stores) have no control over this. I can usually get around $500 of tools and hardware from Lee Valley for round the $US80-120 mark, depending on wether I have ordered a few pounds of cut nails & decorative hinges or a large plane to go with the rest of the small items I can't get in Oz.
I'd suggest using their 'wish list' feature to run up a shopping list over a few days, then when you have a few hundred dollars worth of shinies in the cart make the order. If you have a more limited budget see if a few mates want some items then work out a pre-rata on the shipping. Even SWMBO might find some garden or kitchen goodies that are either unavailable here or are ridiculously expensive even after shipping costs are added

Thanks bsrlee for taking the time to respond to my post.
My comments on the postage costs from the USA and Canada were only a general observation...
My real question was "Where, in Australia, can I get the aforesaid sanding pads"?
That's the real issue !
