Is the intended recipient of the table a fan of basketball? If so, you could tell them the offending leg is the "pivot foot".

The recipient has the same level of affection for all ball sports as myself i.e. none whatsoever.

Thanks anyway for the potential 'out'.

Woodwould, I enjoy your educative and enlightening posts a great deal. Please keep them coming.
Nice work, it makes me feel a little better to know that even experts can make an error like that.

It's surprising the little things you miss after you hang up the tools for a while and come back to them later on.

Progress has been very slow on the table, but I'm happy to report some advancement. I prepared the drawer stuff and cut the front blind dovetails and the rear through dovetails.

The dado was cut in the inside of the drawer front to accept the drawer bottom and rebates were cut into the bottoms of the drawer sides for the same purpose. I'm still working on my wooden welding rod invention, but I'm experiencing a few problems - mainly the acrid smoke stinging my eyes. So until I perfect the process, I have to resort to horse sauce. I fired up (actually plugged in) the glue pot and stuck the drawer together. I also rubbed the edges of the drawer bottom boards together and when it was dry, I squared it all up.

I glued the boards for the top together too and planed the thumbnail moulding around three edges.

Hopefully there'll be more to report tomorrow.

Blimey, WW - even the drawer-bottom is Oak!

Be sure to let us all know when that wood welder is worked out. But then I suppose it will just start another raging argument about traditional joinery vs modern techniques..........
    Cheers,

At this date, drawer bottoms were of Oak. Pine bottoms didn't come in until a little later.

Well it is! It's plain and simple cabinetmaking - nothing more than exhibited by many forumites here. My only real claim to skill is the knowledge of period detail.

Well yes, but those three photos represent hours of work, or they would for me anyway. And I still can't get those rubbed joints working with hide glue. Yes I know, practice practice practice.

Default mistake in oak side table.

W W a long time ago i made a mistake that was quite noticeable and it was spotted by a friend during the construction stage, my reply was ''oh yes i do that to claim ownership of this great design'' .we had many a chuckle over my design ownership of other projects .my opinion is every build in woodwork should have something that identify the maker though your table needs a less obvious one. Lloyd.

Well I can't claim this design as mine as it's an outright copy of an 18th century original, but I like your thinking!

It is coming along well WW, please keep posting photos of the project.

I realise that your current speed is less than a few years ago but how long would it have taken you to make such table in the past?

    Woodwould,

Mistake ... What mistake? the only mistake I can see in this post is that the nice mallet is not big enough to put those dovetails together ( well the ones I would have made).

if you don't have enough material to make another leg, would it be possible to saw the tapered section of the offending leg, drill two mortices and then reconnect them with a suitable dowel?

    still very nice work though,
    Thanks
    Baz

To make this table in the white would normally be a (ten hour) day's work using hand tools. There's about another couple of hours involved with applying the finish.

Thanks Baz. I'm still ruminating whether to rectify the leg or not. Someone chalenged me in a post above, so I'm pretty sure I will rotate the foot to it's correct position one way or another. Ultimately it will be done with a large single dowel through the joint.
