A picture of one of the nails through the drawer guide (table upside-down)...

I attached the handles and then waxed the drawer front...

    ...and then the whole table...

A reminder of the original table that I based this one on...

    And that rogue back leg...

The table will be off to England as soon as I can arrange it and that's that!

Great looking table there Woodwould. What did you use as wax?

Hope that it arrives in England unscathed. It reads a bit like shipping ice to the Eskimoes.

Beautiful piece of work Wouldwood, even the rogue leg.

I blend my own wax polishes; some are harder than others, depending on the application. I usually tint the wax too, as untinted, they are inclined to refract light in an unpleasant way. I sometimes incorporate pigments, depending on the effect I'm after.

I use a large, professional company to take care of the shipping. They'll come and collect the table, wrap it in paper, then foam/rubblebap and pack it in a crate or heavy duty carton and shove it in one of their own containers.

Absolutely wonderful work Woodwould. Inspiring. Really - that's the detail that I strive towards.

    Many thanks.

Thanks for the show WW. Each step along the way has exuded know how. For what it's worth to you, I think you've done more than a faithful replication.

One of the best posts I have seen on this to date. So down to basics and a history lesson to boot. Looks so simple but I know I have a long way to go.

Goodness... what a response! Thank you all for your enthusiastic support and commendations. I did wonder about continually ranting on in this fashion as I usually encounter raised eyebrows preceding a mass exodus to the collective murmurings of "Mad Pom!", but I wanted to diarise the making of this table as much for the recipient as anyone else.

Well, many of us have a lot of affection for our 'mad Poms' - you're part of the mixture that makes this country a bit more interesting than a land full of stereotypical C.J. Dennis characters would be.....

I particularly like the lessons you can teach us on historical details, so I for one am happy to have you rave on whenever the mood strikes.....
    Cheers,

    Please continue to do so

Very nice little table. The methods of applying period details were interesting. More of this would be welcome, I'm sure.
