Default I need an odd hinge

    Hi guys.

Not sure if I'll be able to explain this, but here goes.

I need a hinge (half or full overlap) for a laundry cabinet door. So nothing fancy in the application.

But instead of the door closing at 90 degrees to the carcass, it needs to close further in at about 60 degrees.

Anybody got any idea of whether this is possible? (The bloke at Bunnings said it wasn't, but I think I confused him.)

    Scott

    Hey Scott,

Sounds like the same mob that did your house did my Mother-In-Laws'. i did some shelves for her, did a quick measure and did the shelves at home, got there about an Hour away, had to take 20mm to nothing off one side and about nothing to 15mm off the other to get them in. (My sawbench at the time was spot on) I now do a few more measurements befor I make things.

As for your problem, you may have to try and use butt hinges. or wedges.

It's a new cupboard, so I've only got myself to blame.

    Butt hinge won't.

The problem is the door needs to close to an angle of about 60 degrees (as opposed to the usual 90 degrees) relative to the cabinet side. And it needs to be an overlay - or half overlay - hinge.

I built a corner tv unit, 8 feet high and 3 feet out of each corner, I had the same problem so what I did was to get long overlay hinges and put them in my superjaws and bent the longer edge to gain me the necessary angle

I can sort of imagine how that might work. I hadn't thought of distorting a hinge.

Ah, that's the one! I knew it would be out there somewhere. Thanks Michael.
