    Default What oil should I use on a wooden plane

    I have a couple of old wooden planes and tools that are in need of a "drink".
    What sort of oil should I use?
    I am confused after do a search, some swear by boiled linseed oil and others warm against.

    It would be fair to assume that old planes would have been oiled with linseed. When an apprentice, we used to make a lot of wooden planes for special mouldings etc. We always used linseed.

    I'm not sure if Japanese planes react differently to western planes, but I was taught to not use any finish on our planes.

    Hi Clinto
    I did similar research and used Bunnings Pale Boiled linseed oil on 2 of my timber planes. It's supposed to dry quicker. 3 coates in a week. They look good.
